Announcement & Review Written by Kempsey Grant 24.01.2022

The Swedish theatrical band Ghost has me, once again obsessed, with the new single release 'Call Me Little Sunshine' I haven't been able to stop listening. Since the release on the 20th January, I have had this song on repeat, along side 'Hunter's Moon' to get hyped for their forthcoming fifth studio record named IMPERA due for release on March 11th.
The track starts with dark anthemic classic rock riffs bleached with reverb before really kicking it with dingy bass and hard full kit. The song is rhythmically driven with a lot of breathing room and dashing hints of dark tolling bells. The melodies and riffs of the guitars easily get trapped in your head. The track is quite tame and laid back, in comparison to Hunter's Moon, but I find it soothing. I love the dark and satanic themes within Ghost's lyrics and without exception this track follows suit, hinting at the Devil himself, evident in title. What I love most about this track is it is a beacon hope, it feels like a ballad a father would write to his sweet child to encourage them to keep going and tell them they are not alone and they can call on him for help any time. That is my interpretation and high compliment to Papa's Emeritus IV vocals that sound like a satanist's comfort and home. I Believe that is why Ghost is such a great band; there is something for fans to relate to and to believe in something in such grey times whether taking the songs at base value or really tearing to pieces to find the mystery and story behind the track.
